We do it to kids, frequently around 'sex', and only when young in our society. I personally hit a lot of people, but it's otherwise forbidden, and I typically do it in a competitive way with armed men, although I've slapped a few people too, it's almost like there's overlap.
In some senses, it also uses the old 'warlord' system, where if you're bigger, more physically aware, or also more tactical (lesser) or more strategic (greater, financial whoring works here), you can do it too. I noticed the desk jockeys love slapping around a tough guy with 'financial' dominance, even if it's just for an evening and no money is trading for practical and legal reasons.
